
Yagla Appointed Wrestling Coordinator of Officials

IRVING, Texas - Chuck Yagla has been appointed Coordinator of Wrestling
Officials for the Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences.
Yagla will be responsible for the assignment, evaluation, and training of
the leagues’ officials, while also serving as the liaison to NCAA
officiating committees. His extensive background in the field includes 24
years as an NCAA official, including 12 NCAA Division I National Dual Meet
Championship assignments. He also worked the Championship meets for the
Big Ten and Pac-10 Conferences.
As a collegiate wrestler, Yagla posted a career record of 133-17-2 at the
University of Iowa where he racked up numerous honors. He was a three-time
All-American, two-time NCAA and Big Ten Champion (150 lbs.), and was recognized
as the NCAA Outstanding Wrestler in 1976.
The Waterloo, Iowa, native competed nationally garnering several United
States Wrestling Federation honors. He was a World Cup Freestyle Champion
in 1979, and was a member of the 1980 USA Olympic Freestyle Team competing
in the 149.5 pound division.
His accomplishments have been acknowledged on all levels within the sport
as he has been inducted into five different Halls of Fame, with his most
recent being in 2004 by the University of Iowa Varsity Club Athletic Hall
of Fame.
Yagla retired from officiating in March of 2007, and is presently employed
at the Kirk Gross Company in Waterloo where he serves as the director of
marketing and public relations.
